Roche Bangladesh in Cancer Policy Atmosphere as frontier Pharma Company

On the occasion of World Cancer Day Roche Bangladesh organized a dialogue with country's policy makers, bureaucrats, cancer experts, civil societies, media, academia and volunteer organizations in cooperation with EMK Center, Eminence, Aparajita Society Against Cancer on 26th February 2019 at Dr. Ccep Effendi Conference Hall, CCIC, CIRDAP, Dhaka. The dialogue was hosted according to UICC Proposed theme 'Equity in Access to Cancer Services' where participants from a diverse group joined and raised their demands for cancer access policy improvement.
Dr. Md. Murad Hassan MP, Honorable State Minister of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, who himself is an oncologist graced the event as Chief Guest and committed for cancer care improvement. He shared the current government's commitment to cancer care as there was a priority on recent election manifesto.
He also emphasized for strengthening the partnership for fighting against cancer and urged financial institutes to come and join the hand serving cancer patients through different programs. Dr. Murad also mentioned the progress of introducing national cancer and kidney insurance by state owned insurance company. He also mentioned the government's commitment to build 8 cancer specialized hospitals in 8 different divisions which was declared in another program organized by Roche last year by the then State Minister of Health.
Program was chaired by nation's eminent oncologist Prof. D.r Mohammad Abdul Hai, Director, Bangladesh Cancer Society and Hospital who emphasized to include primary prevention, awareness and screening in urban health care centers addressing Chief Health Officer of Dhaka South City Corporation and Chief Health Officer committed for introducing these activities.
Among others, Waseqa Ayshe Khan, Honorable Member of Parliament as the special guest urged to work in partnership with the civil societies. Ms. Neelima Akhter, Director General of Prime Minister's Office mentioned every potential demand and expressed to work collaboratively.
Additional Director General of Directorate General of Health Services Prof. Dr. AHM Enayet Hussain as special guest referred UICC's advocacy plan and informed that government is already prioritizing the cancer in national health policy and working collaboratively. Major General Md. Azizul Islam, Consultant Physian General as special guest emphasized on the diagnosis infrastructure and facilities. On another note, Md. Abdul Hakim Majumdar, Project Director & Additional Secretary, Urban Primary Health Care Project also emphasized the importance of nationwide awareness campaign and integration of Cancer in primary health care system in Bangladesh. JICA's Chief Advisor was also emphasized on awareness and preventive approach for fighting against cancer.
The dialogue transformed into a platform as more than 100 participants from different organizations who work for cancer care in Bangladesh and shared their thoughts in open discussion. Nation's leading HCPs were also present and raised their demand on improvement on diagnosis, awareness and quality services
by increasing the allocation of funds. The patient groups spokesman shared their journey fighting against cancer, the need of affordable quality treatment and enhance the trust on country's treatment facility. Roche Bangladesh is honored to initiate the dialogue and host the platform for the stakeholders.
All the stakeholders committed to continue the collaboration and fight against cancer by any means so does Roche Bangladesh with a commitment to continue the dialogue in coming days.
